My girl is growing...

Sydney is a chunker! She is about 7 months in this picture. I am so proud of the young woman Sydney has become. I hope that you have enjoyed looking at Sydney growing up. For anyone who knows her knows how special and funny and whitty she is! She keeps me laughing with tears or yelling with tears. I told her she is so pationate. It's all or nothin' with that girl. I cry to think of the girl I am loosing but I rejoice in the woman she is becoming. I love you Sydney, happy birthday!

Yes, it has been a while since I last blogged. I make no apologies. Life sometimes happens. Everynight I lay in bed and think of the things that I would like to post. The next day they are a distant memory. I am making lunches or fixing breakfast or driving someone somewhere. I am studying or reading or playing.
My kids do not understand that when they hear someone say that parents do this and don't do that (things like play and still build forts with their kids) because my childrens parents still do these things. What fun is having children if you can't get on the floor and play? Watch their imaginations grow and listen to their stories. Even as my oldest is on the cusp of turning 13, I still hold her hand, when she allows. I brush her hair and I even pluck her eyebrows! I lay in her bedroom floor and listen to music with her. We talk about what things are "cool" and how to cope with the world. She asks me questions about my childhood. How do I answer? That's a hard one. I didn't always live my life in a way that is worthy. But, I wish for her to not make my mistakes. I am in awe of her, she is smart beyond her years, yet she is still my little girl. She still wants to be held and still wants her daddy to wrestle with her. And doesn't understand why he can't.
I have come to a very hard realization this week. I was asked to undertake a new calling or "position" if you will, at churh. It will involve me being gone from the house every morning during the time that the rest of my family is getting ready for school/work. I worried that my son would fall apart. I refuse to let him be. I am very emotional over him because not only is he my last child but, due to my age, I doubt that I will have anymore children. This realization has hit me very hard as I approach my 38th birthday. I look at him and it seems just like yesterday he was my little baby. I will have a harder time adjusting to the morning's than he will. He will probably cry and whine at first, this will make him tougher, right?
I pray for my children that they will turn out well, what parent doesn't? I teach them correct principles. I love them and understand that God saw ME, Tina Liverman, fit to be their mother. What a huge responsibility.
I have thought a lot about the last 10 years. Since we just embarked on the new year and a new decade. Do you realize growing up I thought that I was worthless. Not worthy of love, to give love or to feel anything but shame. But, the last 10 years have proven me wrong. I am so in love with my husband and he with me. I have finally found my place among the world. It is not always a pretty place. But I am so glad that I have the knowledge of the gospel in my life. I have the love of a wonderful family and a loving Heavenly Father.
The last 10 years have been so fun. A learning experience. I have lived all over the U.S. I have made freinds and met all kinds of people that I would not have met otherwise. I have dealt with real setbacks and tragedy. My husband is blind. Don't feel sorry. It has made us appreciate things so much more. To have THIS and it be gone makes one realize just what really is important. I have lost my 2 grandmothers whom I love dearly. They are still missed and I still think of what their reactions would be to certain things that happen. I have rekindled relationships and I have lost relationships. A natural way of life. I know. The next 10 years will hold much of the same. I grow spirtually and I grow wiser. I love the age that I am now. I love that I am best friends with my husbad. I feel sorry for the wives whose husbands prefer to spend their free time away. How blessed am I?
I look forward to what the next 10 years brings to the Liverman household.

Halloween con't...

Then 2 days later Sydney had a Halloween party. I figured that Gage would be alsleep in the back bedroom while the other kids had their party outside. My mom came to help out which was nice. Gage was still bouncing off the walls, which is NOT a good thing to do after having tonsils removed. The weather was calling for rain, for we had to move the party indoors. I did not want 12 12 year old in my house eatting and doing whatever. But, it was whatis was. They were soooo good and respectfull. I was really impressed. So we had them over for 2 hours and we had to keep Gage "entertained" in the bedroom with ghost storis and balloon games. Yeah, Sydney looks a little grown. Not to happy with what she is wearing. After the I saw the pictures, I realized she looked a little to grown for my taste and I have forbid her to wear the dress that she bought at the thrift store. The past 2 weeks has been crazier than usual around the Liverman home. 2 Thursday's ago, Gage has his tonsils taken out here is a picture before we left for the surgical center..
After we got home I thought that he would sleep and sleep and I would be able to catch up on some homework. Nope. He was wide eyed and busy tailed

No new pictures so I hope this dosn't bore anyone. If you are like me I never read post's I only (mostly)like to look at the pictures.
Well, we have been back to school for about 3 weeks now. I like my classes. I am taking Physics, Geography, Public Speaking, Social Problems, and American Lit. phew, that's alot! I seem to be enjoying so far... We shall see, a couple of my teachers are ver unorganized and it makes for hard test.

Sydney started the 7th grade. WOW! she is 12 and in 12 more years she could be done with college or married or both and have a baby. Talk about blowing my mind! She is a typical 12 year old. She loves school. She does really well at it. She is the kind of person who dosn't have to study to get the good grades (gag!). She is cute and she is not interested (yet) in boys. Good job.

Gage started the 2nd grade. And every morning there is tears and I practically have to push him out the door. This morning I actually had to drag him by both arms out the door. He held onto the door jamb like a cat with both hands and I had to pry his fingers off! I really am at my wits end! He says that his teacher yells, she may, or since he isn't used to loud stuff anything louder than talking normal would be a yell to him. I hate to say anything to the teacher for fear she will take it out on Gage, since we have had retaliation from teachers in the past when I have asked about certain behavoir. Other than that, Gage just says he will miss me too much, this morning he said he gets a tear on the bus for me! That is a bit much, don't you think? Please, does anyone no how to handle this type of situation? I have tried being nice. Taking things away. Pleading and bargaining. When he gets home from school he says that he had a great day. And he does well in school. Go figure?

Thats about all that's going on right now. We are just trying to get by. Forrest and I have found a good routine that pretty much works for us.

Last trip of the summer

Last week we went to Nags Head for a couple of days. The last hurrah of summer, if you will. We stayed at my dad's aging camper. But hey, it served it's purpose, right? Plus, we had a ton of fun. Who say's you have to stay at a fancy hotel or have the best of whatever to have fun? We had a meaningful FHE (family home evening) while there plus, me and Sydney got some serious shopping in. I started school yesterday and the kids today. Sydney ws excited and ready. Gage was a little apprehensive. I will post 1st day pictures later. My case load is full this semester. But it's the last one, hurray. Then another 2 years at the university. We will be crazy busy from here to Christmas. I might come up for air once in a while, if I havn't gone crazy.

BG and Water Country

For Gage's birthday this year he decided to NOT have a party but instead go to Busch Gardens. It was great because for 10 more dollars you could add Water Country. No pictures form there because I didn't feel like keeping up with a camera in a waterpark. The kids liked it there better than BG. But let me say, after the first day me and Forrest felt our age plus 10 years. Walking up and down hills and stories and stories of stairs for a 45 sec. ride tends to make ones feet and legs hurt! They liked it so much that by late afternoon on Sat. they were ready to ditch BG and head back to Water Country, which we did. We had a great weekend. We stopped by Grandma Aprils on the way home and went to lunch and had a short visit.
We did celebrate Gage's birthday on Monday, which was his actual birthday (7 years old!!!)We took him out to eat he had one friend and the rest were our friends. All in all it was a great week. Summer school for me ended and now I have a month off before the semester starts and the kids go back to school. I think tomorrow we will go to the beach if anyone wants to go. The more the merrier!

boob tube

Don't know if anyone has ever heard of the game boob tube, but it is such a silly game. We had a young married couples activity at chruch a couple of weeks ago and we played this. Not a great pix of me but wanted to share. You have a tube with about 6 or 8 marbles and you have to try to get the marbles through little holes throughout the tube. Then you pass it on to the next person. The senior missionaries bought it off ebay, it was copywrited 1966!

This is Sydney's new doo. The kids looked so cute for church yesterday. Gage actually got up in Sacrament meeting to bare his testimony. That kid is the greatest. Of course, Sydney helped him, but that's okay. I feel good when I know my kids are becoming spiritually minded.
I don't know why it is that at bedtime, after family prayer, Forrest decides he wants to play with the kids. So, these are a couple of pix of them all playing. Sydney is really getting to big for Forrest to "wrestle" with. And she really misses it. He did manage to do a couple "pile drives." The kids love to tickle Forrest and loves for them to tickle him. What a nice daddy!

Awards Day

Sydney had an awards banquet the other night for making honor roll all school year. Way to go!! We are sooo proud of that girl. If she looks a little sweaty, it's because she is. It was about 150 in the building. It was a "resturant" in the loosest of terms. But, that's NC for ya! She also had another awards ceremony yesterday, where she took home about 5 more awards-top reader and hightest % in science. Yup, this comes from her teacher (or lack of teacher)who said to her last year on awards day that she "just wasn't that good in science" We were unlucky not to have Grandma April come with us. But, we were luck to have Miss Deb come with us. She is a stand in G'ma. We love her! Thanks, Deb.

Lets see...last weekend we worked in the yard for a good part of the day. Gage had fun "directing" where the mulch went. That boy was soooo stinkin' dirty I had to not only let him soak in the tub, but take a scrub brush and scrub his hands and feet and knees.
Sydney spent the weekend at Grandma April's and came back with more clothes, no surprise there.
We also, finally, started T-ball. Our first game was Tuesday night. Gage's form is getting much better. Forrest is certainly in his element with baseball. We are also excited that the local collegiate team, Edenton Steamers, are back and we get to go to our first game Sat. night. Thanks to Miss Fran for all the tickets.

The other morning as Gage was putting his shoes on getting ready for school, he got one, too. A huge spider laying in wait. If you remember I crunched the same type of spider up under my toes a few weeks before. Fortunatly, Gage's spider was left in one piece.
Two nights ago I aked Forrest if he checked his shoes in the morning. Nope. So what happens this morning. He gets a live one. After it fell out of his shoe it ran towards him. He thinks it was trying to attack him. They are aggressive little buggers! (No pun intended) I was able to ID it. Take a look.

We have been quite busy in the Liverman household. These are a few pictures of Easter day. We went to Aunt Teresa's house in chesapeake, Va. After a yummy lunch we had a little hunt for the kiddo's.
On Monday, Forrest started his classes. They are all on-line. It has been scarry for the obvious reasons but also because all of the things that he needs for his low-vision have not come in yet. He did get his audio cd's, but they forgot to send the special player that you have to have. Bummer. Sydney has been reading his textbooks to him. She is gonna be one smart 12 year old. Thursday we went to Greenville and met with the Technology Coordinator for the Services for the Blind. He is hooking Forrest up with all kinds of neat things. A laptop with special software that will read to Forrest. And a special viewer so that Forrest can actually SEE his books and graphs or whatever. This is the greatest. Not that being blind is the greatest, but knowing that these things are available for him.
What else? ummmm...I have LOVED sleeping in this week and loved having having the kids home. The Easter Bunny brought the kids a Wii. Love it. Hence the pictures, we brought it with us to Teresa's house. Well, that's about all going on in the Liverman household right now.

The thingy in my shoe

I have had a fear for a few years after seeing a show on Discovery. The show was about spider bites. One story was about a man who put his shoe on and there was a brown recluse in there and it bit his foot! So, my fear? Spiders in my shoe.
This morning I went for a walk. About 1/2 way through it felt like the lining of my tennis shoe was crinkling up under my toes. Annoying. Then a few minutes later I felt a rock or big pebble under my toes. I was having a good walk, nice pace and the rock really wasn't that annoying so I kept going. It did cross my mind that It could be that dreaded spider. But it really didn't feel like a bug. After I got home I piddled a bit before I took my shoe off. Then I thought about the spider and even said to myself, "Wouldn't it be gross if there really was a spider?" When I took my shoe off a huge (no exageration) dead spider fell out. I could see the fangs! Guts and legs smushed into my sock. I am going to throw up just thinking about it again!
I don't think I got bit. I never felt any burning or discomfort. I am hoping that the spider was dead when I put my foot in the shoe. Is it possible to get a spider bit and not feel anything? Let me know.

Wow, I have been so busy since Christmas. Either one of the kids have been sick or I have been sick. I am in Elizabeth City (about 40 miles away from my house) 6 days out of the week and 2 times in one day. So, I am really never home. I must be crazy to post right now. I am so stinkin' tired, but, I needed to do something that didn't require any real thinking.
The kids are great, Sydney is battling bronchitas now and an ear infection. She is on her 4th day of antibiotics, it's a 5 day run. She is still coughing and not feeling well. Any suggestions? Gage has begun Sylvan learning center and he is really enjoying that.
I have a full load this semester. I am taking Biology, Sociology, Algebra, Health and Wellness and American History II. Phew, one more semester plus summer school and I will be done with my Associates. I am getting ready to apply to East Carolina University which is so exciting.
Sydney also had a birthday. She is the big 12 now. no more primary!! she is now a full fledged YW. That means girls camp and mutual. She will love it. 2 more years and she will be able to go to the dances. So exciting!!!
I hope that I havn't lost all my reader, at least I got to vent. Thanks, love ya!!!

Christmas is over...

I don't have time to upload any pix right now. Christmas is over and it was really the best Christmas for me in a loooonnnnggg time. Although Gage was/is sick, it was still great.
I got to see my grandfather for the first time in 12 years. That means my kids got to meet their great grandfather for the first time. (Sydney did meet him when she was 4 months old).

I will try to get some pix together, does anyone still look at my blog anyway? Drop me a line and let me know how you're doing.

Yes, we love our collards!! This is only a smidgon of what I cooked!! I cooked enough for my family's gathering, but two other families. It was so fun, don't ask what I seasoned them with. It does have to do with a pig and his cute little-well, I'll just leave it at that.

Pecan Tree

This is the pecan tree that I picked the pecans from for the homemade pecan pie that I made for Forrest's birthday. How studpid of me not to take a picture of the pie. But, If you look real close you can see it in the corner by the flaming cake. (Gage said we had to have a real cake for a birthday, so I bought him a high sugared piece of work-with 33 candles).

Just a little bit of everything going on. First, we had a visit downtown Edenton from the ship, Elizabeth II. That was very fun to visit and explore. I thought that Forrest wrestling with the kids was fun. Sydney gets so jealous of Gage b/c Forrest can't really wrestle with her like he did when she was little and he does with Gage. (I think there is a grammatical error in there somewhere). Then of course, there is Halloween. Sydney is the Geisha girl or like Forrest thought she said Gay chef. And Mr. Gage is the Pirate-minus the earring. No way, no how was he wearing that. We had fun trick or treating. I love the fall and look forward to Thanksgiving and being with family.

Field trip

I was lucky enough to be able to go on a field trip with Sydney's class on Friday. We went here. We also went here. If you have ever taken a charter bus up a non-paved muddy mountain, straight up you know that it can be nothing less than scary. We also went here. Which also happens to be the town in which I was born.
What a wonderful experience for the kids and adults also. We had so much fun.
When it was all over and done with we had been up for 22 hrs. So, I can't complain that I was upset when Gage's soccer game was canceled yesterday.
I, of course, forgot my camera. I am waiting for Sydney's friend to send me the pictures I took with her camera. So, be on the outlook for them!

Last weekend when my mother was here, she was browsing the classifieds on line. She said to Forrest, "Here's a good job for you." (whatever it was) Gage said, "Grandma, daddy can't see to work." GM said, "No, but he can listen and do things with his hands." G said without missing a beat, "No, he dosn't do those things well, either."
Silly boy.

I think today is the first day he has felt good. Unfortuantly, I do not. Today is better than yesterday, tomarrow will be great!

Tonight was a great night. I had the Achievement Day girls (girls from church where we do bi-weekly activities) over to my house. My neighbor Michelle taught them about canning and she and the girls canned some pear honey. Very delicious! Well, about the time that we were wrapping things up, Sydney runs to the kitchen and yells that Gage is throwing up everywhere. Lets see, we have food boiling on the stove, 5 adults, 4 girls, a toddler and Gage. Great. But the the Ramon Noodles and Chicken Nuggets that Gage at for lunch and dinner tonight did not deter Forrest from cleaning the floor and walls and bringing out the steam cleaner. What a man. Thanks, honey.

County Fair

This week the Chowan County Fair is in town. Unfortunatly, we are having a Nor'easter. Which means tons of rain and wind. But, before all that began, Gage got to go. Gages school and other surrounding schools and daycares get a chance to go as a field trip. It is a very nice thing for the folks who do it to do it. We are aiming to go as a family saturday night. Cross your fingers that the weather has cleared up!

Sick puppies

Have you heard about the new law that was passed? Maybe it's just a NC thing but, they are making kids entering 6th grade (which Sydney did) get this.
Well, this was on Tuesday. Wednesday morning when she woke up, she was running a fever of 101.5 and she had all the flu symptoms. Poor baby. By that night, even with motrin, her tempature spiked at 103.4. Yikes! So I alternated motrin and Tylanol. Today was a much better day. She was just sore a little this morning but by the end of the day she was back to her self.
Gage just has the usual cold that comes along with school. He will have it until around---April. Does anyone else have this problem? It is horrible.

Here are the pictures that I promised. I did not take any really good ones, nonetheless, here they are. My mother took Sydney to get her nails done a few days before school started so that her nails matched her outfit. Wow, that is crazy. If you click on the picture where Syd is holding her clarinet, you can see the cutest blouse that my mom made. It has little musical instruments on it.

I has been really nice having a 3 day weekend. The kiddo's were so wore out. They went swimming in the neighbors pool probably for the last time this season. Today we had a couple friends over for a cookout. It was nice, but there seems to be alot of crazy things happening around here. With illness and unfortunate accidents and such. I just hope we have seen the last of it and once everything gets settled, things will fall into the groove. Well, I for one am glad that the weekend is over. This week we start with soccer, both Syd and Gage. I have a class to attend in Elizabeth City (a good 40 min. away) and of course, its at night. It seems that the older the kids get, the busier we get. Just have to remember to keep things in perspective and not let things get out of hand. It is too easy to do that.
Oh, I don't know how I forgot about my Temple trip. I was able to go to the Raleigh Temple on Sat. with some ladies from church. I had not been to the temple in such along time. It was great, wish that I could have gone with Forrest, but I'll take what I get.

School has begun full force. I started last Wed. and the kids started on Mon. Thank goodness Sydney seems to really like her teachers. She is playing the clarinet in band this year, I hope that that is something she will stick with. Gage is a 1st grader. Where did the time go? He was so nervous the first day his knees were knocking. I hate that he is so shy. But, he seems to be adjusting okay.
I do have pictures, but I am not long on time these days. Maybe the weekend I will upload them

P.S. For anyone who was keeping up, my kitchen did get finished, it looks great. Maybe I will get those pix up too.

Michelle and I got up at at 6:30 this morning and walked just over a mile. I am so proud of myself. I love my bed and sleeping almost as much asI love my kids! So, to pry myself up that early for no logical reason other than to shed a few pounds (which is a great reason when you come to think of it) is a BIG deal for me.
I also started school today!! I am looking forward to a semester full of learning and skills that will aide me in my future. LOL. If you can find a use for algebra, let me know, I am still looking!

A day with friends and family

I really haven't been blogging anything of any substance lately. We have been kind of busy. The pictures below were taken a week ago Saturday. Me and my kids went with our friend Michelle and her little boy to Va. to see a pirate puppet show at the park. We met my mother and aunt there. It was a beautiful day. We had a picnic lunch and played.

Sydney went to tennis camp a couple of weeks ago. She really enjoys playing tennis. I am hoping when she is in high school that she will still love to do all the things that she enjoys now.'
Her tennis coach remembered Forrest from a long time ago. Forrest also used to teach tennis and was in the tennis tournaments. That was fun. Wish I would have known him then.

As you can see the tree almost hit Sydney's room. It is a miracle that the top portion broke off and missed the house. I think that God was watching out for us. It's really weird how the top portion just snapped and folded over like it did.

Well, most everyone knows that my poor husband is legally blind. (If you didn't, now you do). He usually cuts the grass, and does a fine job of it. As a matter of fact he cuts a couple of other yards in the 'hood for extra money.

Well, today I decided to give him a break. Me and Gage decided to cut the grass. The clue that I should have turned around and gone back in was when Gage had to tell me how to turn the riding lawnmower on. Not to be outdone by a 6 year old, I said, "I know how to turn it on!!" We did good, but when I was pulling the machine-beast back to under the carport I tried to go through the little spot that it dosen't fit. Gage told me not to do it, but I did not listen. The pictures are the result of me not listening to my 6 year old. Next time, listen to the youth! And realize just because you have 20/20 vision does not mean you can "see"

kitchen update

We had our family come over this past sunday for a dinner. I had a couple of aunts in town (New York and Fayettville, NC) I really wanted to have my kitchen done. Almost, but no go. I did rangle my uncle Preston into putting up my over the range microwave in. Thanks Unc. I have about 5 or 6 more doors to paint and the otherside of the bar. I don't know how I forgot about that part. I just have not had the energy to work on it this week.

Earlier in the week my friend Michelle and her son, Mathew and all my kids went to the mini-zoo in Windsor, NC. After we left there, because of the horrible humidity, we felt we deserved a treat. So, we went to the Heritage house and got a nice hot fudge cake. The best!!! I did go to the gym that night to work some of it off.

What a birthday! Saturday we celebrated at Chuckie Cheese (pictures to come). A couple of Gage's friends came, Maddy, Taylor, and Mathew. Grandma and Aunt Sally came, too. Sydney brought a friend. It was a good day. That evening Gage came down with a fever, bummer! He felt pretty good yesterday, his actual birthday, but by 7 last evening the fever was back. Just a little virus Im sure.
I cannot believe that he is 6. He is growing so fast. He has decided that he cannot give me kisses in public anymore, it's too embarrassing; only hugs.

Update on the kitchen:
The floor is being installed this morning, the cabinets are almost done being painted so by tomarrow, it should all be done! woo-who.

We went to the Norfolk, Va zoo yesterday with Stephanie, Maddy, and Taylor. It was a fairly nice day, although Gage had "issues" but we made it through. Terrible melt down by the elephants, the elephants were unfazed, that's always a good thing.

Forrest

Forrest gave a talk in church today, he did such a wonderful job. It reminded that I have not written my gratitude's in a long time.

1. I am thankful for the church and the peace that it brings to my life and the words of the prophet. How wonderful that we live in this dispensation. We are truly blessed.

2. I am thankful for music. I have been listening to some really nice music. I have discovered a woman, who just happens to be LDS (mormon) named Cherie Call. Sydney likes her music,too. Music has always been source of goodness in my life. Music is as potent to me as a smell or a picture.

3. I am thankful for the lazy days of summer. This is such good time to just play with my kids and be silly and funny. Gage has recently started calling me the "big, bad bunny." Sydney has the ability to make me laugh by just laughing her "silent laugh"

4. I am thankful for my husband and the courage that it takes for him to get up everyday and face the not so nice public. Of course, you can't blame them all the time. He has such a great disposition when it comes to his "disability" You can't but not learn something from him.

5. I am thankful for my quite time. I love that I am still able to find a few moments to relax and read whatever it is I am reading. Recently I have been reading some Nora Roberts and The Old Testament. Nice mix, huh?

We have taken the task of trying to update our kitchen. What a daunting task!!! I started out with painting, because that's all I really wanted to do. The color I chose at Lowe's was a muted yellow, not real bright-but once I put it on my walls BAM, it was bright, my friend Linda could not believe that it was the same color. So, I got the "bright" idea to sponge white on over that. I am not an artistic person whatsoever. No go, so Linda and I decided that it needed a more contrasting yellow. I got a deeper yellow. I sponged that on. I think I like it. But now I see the cabinets look like CRAP. Now I am sanding them down and am going to paint them white. Forrest and I are going to look at new stoves monday. I will take pictures and post, but this whole kitchen thing has left me with such anxiety I can't bring myself to take any pictures:)

Jockey's Ridge

The picture that dosen't look like anything but a big sand dune, is acutally Forrest, Gage and Kellen running down this enormous sand dune called Jockeys Ridge. It is an amazing thing to climb.

The Beach

On our way home from Williamsburg we dropped Sydney off at my mothers house. She will be there until tuesday. Kellen is here for the weekend so we decided to all go to the beach. We had a good time there. Gage loves to boogie board, so does Forrest. We are all so tired. Life will get back to normal beginning on Tuesday, thank goodness. But we sure had fun.
