The first thing the nurse did was come out and put these really cool things on Gage's hands. They looked like band-aides, but they numbed his hands and enlarged his veins. He didn't feel a change occur at all. When they had taken effect, we went in the back (where they do the MRI) and they put in an IV, he never felt a thing. Then a dr. did an exam on Gage to make sure that he was fit for sedation. Guess what? He wasn't. His tonsils are enormous. The right one is so large that is almost blocks his airway completely. She suggested we tell the pediatrician so that we can do a sleep clinic. I knew this and was going to bring it because I was concerned. She said that they could not do the sedation.
The next choice was to do a drug through the IV that did not make his sleep. She warned that it could make him loopy and giggley. Oh, my gosh. Forrest and I have never laughed so hard. That was probably the most inappropriate time to laugh. The second the RX hit him, his whole body went slack and his eyes glazed over and he got this grin on his face and didn't blink. He told me that he had crazy vision. He said I had 2 noses and I looked like a pig.
He still moved to much with that for them to do the MRI. So we will have to reschedule for a full sedation.
The loud noises of the MRI scared him so bad. Now he is terrified to go back and be put to sleep. But he did try and I am proud of him for that.
